What to Expect

Parking

Parking is pretty simple here, you are invited to park in either of the the two big lots in front of the church. Although there are 3 main entrances, we invite you to come to the entrance on the corner of 4th and Jefferson. The doors open at 9 am.

Arrival Time

We have noticed that socializing before church is becoming very popular, so we are currently utilizing our library lounge as the primary entrance before services on Sundays. Coffee and snacks will be available 30 minutes before service starts. **The doors on the corner of 4th and Jefferson will still be available to enter for those who prefer.**

What to Wear

Wear whatever you're comfortable in, from flip-flops and a tank top, to dress shoes and formal attire, we have it all. The clothing you wear when worshiping does not matter to the Lord at all, he just wants to love you and be loved by you!

Worship Style

Our worship style is Lutheran with a blended selection of hymns and contemporary music. We also celebrate the Holy Communion every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. If you believe in the presence of Christ in the bread and the wine and are baptized, you are welcome to partake in it. Click on the icon above for more information.

Teaching Style

Every worship service is centered on God's Word. From the songs we sing, to the liturgy, from our bible readings to our sermons they are designed to help you grow in God's Word.

Children

Calling all kiddos! We love sharing God's glory with the next generation of his followers! As someone once said, Christians are made, not born. In other words, we are not born as Christians, we become Christians when we receive God's gift of salvation and new life, in baptism through repentance. If we don't teach our children the way of life, the world will teach them the path to darkness. the children are the future of the church. In an ever-changing world, we need to ground our children in God's Word so that it will be their source of strength, comfort, and hope. We recognize this importance and encourage the bringing of children to church where they can hear God's Word and build relationships with fellow believers.

Summer Events

VBS, Mission Trips, Movie Nights, and Church in the Park are just a few of the events that we have during the Summer months. Due to schedule changes with summer activities, please contact Geri at 641.682.8334 for upcoming dates, times and events.

Youth

This year, our goal has been to intentionally grow in the Word by directly engaging in it. Our weekly gathering is guided by the W's in the Connexus (small group) format. Welcome, Word, Worship, Witness. We read and discuss the upcoming Sunday sermon text and its relevance to us and our setting. We also have many social and fun activities through out the year that let us engage in our community.

Serve on Sundays

Giving back is so important. We have a need to give of our time, of our talents and our our resources. Members have many opportunities to serve at First Lutheran. Whatever gift God has given you, we can use it. You can serve on Sunday mornings by being a reader, communion assistant, acolyte, usher, choir, drama, or as a musician. You are also invited to serve on different committees and ministries that help run the church. If you have a willing heart, we can use you! contact Geri for more ways you can serve.

Summer Mission Trips

We offer our high school youth the opportunity to attend mission trips for a week during the summer. It’s more than just a week's experience. Our teams meet monthly from October through July, getting ready for our journey. We build relationships, grow in God’s Word, and pray for our trip and the people that we will encounter. During the week of our trip, we experience hands-on mission projects, exciting music and programs, and group-building activities. Our goal is to be the hands and feet of Jesus. There is something unique about taking 10 to 20 kids and adults across the country in a van that truly brings people together in a special way. Although we go to work, we also go to grow in Christ through Worship, digging into God’s Word, and growing together as a mission family.
